Statement

My current practice explores mediums such as film photography, text and digital means. I use text as an outlet, poetry is incredibly personal, and almost bittersweet, which then inspires recreation of this through images I capture. Previously, I have used sources such as newspapers, and poetry from the likes of C.A Duffy to redact text and words creating short statements, lasting one day only, inspired by the likes of On Kawara. This then influenced my concept of ‘reacting to redacting’, examining themes such as ‘a moment’, and ‘time’, how my text pieces are intimate, through current use of minimalistic, and almost un-readable size. In my most present piece, I use 35mm film photography as the first stage of my work, as opposed to the text being first, my aim was to ultimately make this a ‘performance’, securing within an image those who have shaped the person I am today, and exploring relationships within these moments. Film photography being a confidential process, I choose which film to develop, and in that action I am almost reliving the moment I captured, and this is part of the process inspiring my poetry pieces I have created from the images taken. I am continuing to seek and analyse poetry within art and conceptual photography, which in time will further develop my intentions through my work. My external project will be a focus on recreation, how a memory and moment in time is captured, I am interested in expressing my experiences using gestural paint, this is something I am beginning to explore.
